Xinmei Li

My name is Xinmei Li, and I come from Northeast China. I’ve lived in America for 20 odd years now.

I started teaching here in 2008, the same year that I moved to Grand Rapids, and I’ve been here since. During the decade that I’ve been here, I have taught Pinyin, vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension, and composition through multimedia and games in addition to traditional teaching methods. Other subjects I have taught include Chinese etymology, culture, and history. Many of my students have medaled in various national Chinese competitions, including ones for reading, speaking, and writing. I have a master’s in computer science and three Transcripts of Professional Competency of International Chinese Teachers issued by the International Chinese Teacher Certificate Authority—for Chinese Teaching and Chinese Culture, Knowledge and Competence of Chinese Language, and Chinese Language Teaching Practice, with the grades Advanced, Advanced, and Intermediate respectively.

I hope to inspire people to learn Chinese, enjoy Chinese culture, and understand Chinese history.
